Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Ki-Jana Hoever has hit back at criticism from boss Bruno Lage last season.
The youngster is spending this season on loan at PSV Eindhoven, joining them earlier this month when it was made clear he was not a part of Wolves’ plans for the time being.
He had been a part of Lage’s squad last season, making 10 appearances in all competitions, eight of which were in the Premier League. Hoever faced criticism for his performances, though, particularly from Lage, who called out the defender after a defeat to Crystal Palace in March.
That game saw the player leave the game with an injury after 25 minutes, with Lage later saying it was because the youngster was not prepared and did not work with the same intensity as the rest of the squad.
It’s a big criticism, particularly for a 20-year-old, but he has now responded to the comments from the Wolves boss.
“I’m sure I’m a hard-working player,” he told Voetbal International.
“That’s what got me where I am now. I’m not always the easiest guy, I admit that, but I wasn’t injured because I didn’t train hard.
“It was a learning moment, for both parties. It’s not nice, people might think differently about me. Now I have to prove them wrong.”
