It seems that Wolverhampton Wanderers have really lost the race for Rio Ave midfielder Pelé.

After reports of a race with Monaco, the Portuguese press now confirms that the player is on his way to move to France.

Newspaper A Bola claims that the Ligue 1 side will be paying €10m for the transfer, which could be made official today. Pelé is said to be in Monaco to have his medical and sign a five-year contract with the club.

Wolves’ links with Pelé lasted for over two years. The club came close on signing him in 2016, but the transfer collapsed due to an injury suffered by the player.

A couple of months ago, the negotiations were back. With Benfica having an option to buy him back from Rio Ave, there was even a rumour which said the Eagles would do that just to sell him to Wolves afterwards.

Interest from the Premier League club is referenced once again, but Monaco’s willingness to pay the €10m has made the difference.
