Friday’s edition of A Bola has an article on the future of João Palhinha, and a potential exit for the Sporting player in the summer.
The midfielder was linked with Newcastle United in the January window, and it’s stated ‘attempts were made’ to build a move to Eddie Howe’s side in the winter market. That was potentially as an alternative to Bruno Guimarães, and with the Brazilian arriving from Lyon, Palhinha to Newcastle may be a thing of the past.
A Bola say Wolves is now the ‘most likely destination’ for the player. Atletico Madrid have been thought to be keen, but their interest hasn’t turned into anything concrete.
Wolves are said to be ‘very attentive’ to Palhinha, and A Bola believe that could be partly because they fear losing Ruben Neves in the summer.
Sporting have their player on a contract which lasts until 2026, and he has a €60m clause. However, they need to raise money in the next market, and it’s therefore thought Wolves could secure the signing for €30m.
Unsurprisingly, it’s suggested Jorge Mendes should play a role in a possible deal.
