Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly joined the race for Rio Ave defender Roderick Miranda.
According to Wednesday’s edition of O Jogo, the Championship side are in a battle which includes clubs from China and France as well.
Wolves made an approach during the January market, but couldn’t find an agreement with Rio Ave. O Jogo claims the Portuguese club would be willing to sell the player in the next window.
Having come through Benfica’s academy, the player had loans in Switzerland and Spain, where he played for Servette and Deportivo La Coruña.
He was sold by Benfica to Rio Ave in 2013, and has been slowly conquering his place there. With 25 appearances this season, Miranda is now considered one of the most important players in the squad.
It’s unclear who the player’s agent is, although claims from a couple of years ago said he’s a Jorge Mendes client.
This would be no surprise, since the representative has been doing business with Wolves recently.
Wolves currently have three Portuguese players in their squad: Ivan Cavaleiro, Silvio and Helder Costa. Two of them are officially Jorge Mendes clients.
