For the past month or so, Wolverhampton Wanderers have been credited with interest in Sporting’s Matheus Nunes.

On Saturday, Correio da Manhã reported the Premier League side haven’t give up on signing the midfielder, who is open to making the leap to another top club this summer.

Record have a report on the Lions’ plans for the remainder of the window. With regards to the 23-year-old, they state he is the ‘big unknown’.

If the transfer window were to close today, they suggest Sporting manager Rúben Amorim would be delighted with the group of players currently at his disposal.

Amorim has asked the Primeira Liga side not to sell any of his core players, but things can still change. Sporting, for their part, only intend to do business if they are forced to sell for a big fee.

Wolves are mentioned, as their interest in Nunes is the ‘only one concrete’ so far. The player is aware if he decides to leave Sporting, then Bruno Lage’s side would be ‘ready to advance’.

This scenario has lost strength in recent days because the Portugal international wants to continue at the club for one more season, after being persuaded by Amorim. In addition to this, Nunes is also looking for an ambitious project.

Record say the English club made an offer that guarantees €40m fixed fee plus an additional €10m in variables.

Record explain Sporting will only discuss Nunes’ sale if there is an offer superior to the one already made by Wolves.

They further state: ‘Frederico Varandas made a commitment to extend this effort until August 31st, which, in practice, returns much of the burden of the decision to Matheus himself, since Wolves will always be a half-open door.’
