Incoming Wolverhampton Wanderers signing Emmanuel Agbadou should give it six months at Molineux before deciding if he wants to stay at the club long-term.

That’s according to Wilfried Bony, speaking to 225 Foot, who believes the defender may want to assess the situation again at the end of the season if he moves to Wolves this month as expected.

The Stade de Reims defender has been linked with a move to Wolves for the past few weeks, with the latest reports indicating that a deal was close to being completed after the French side accepted a €20m offer.

He is likely to be one of several new faces to arrive at Wolves in this window, with an acceptance at the club that funds need to be spent to strengthen Vitor Pereira’s squad, particularly in defence.

The move to England will be a major step up for the 27-year-old, who started his career in his native Ivory Coast before moving to Tunisia on loan, then Belgium with KAS Eupen and then France with Reims in July 2022.

How he adapts, particularly midway through the season and with Wolves very much in a relegation battle, remains to be seen.

And Bony believes he should give it six months before deciding if he wants to stay permanently, particularly if Wolves do not avoid the drop.

“The Premier League remains what it is: an attractive championship where everyone wants to play,” he said.

“Agbadou is going into a new environment in the middle of the season, and it will be a very big challenge.

“He should go alone for the last six months of the season, adapt and see at the end of the season if he wants to stay permanently in England in case his club does not survive. That way, he will be able to bring his whole family.”
