Over the past few days, the Spanish media have reported on Wolverhampton Wanderers’ interest in Barcelona’s Gerard Martín.

On June 9th, Sport reported Wolves can tempt the left-back to join them by improving his salary.

A day later, AS stated Jorge Mendes registered the Premier League club’s interest in the 23-year-old. The super-agent doesn’t represent the player but has close ties with Wolves and Barcelona.

On Thursday, we covered claims from Spain that the defender will undergo surgery after hurting his hand. It was also indicated this won’t hinder his potential exit from the Camp Nou this summer.

Friday’s edition of Sport says Martín had to be operated immediately because he ‘suffered a dislocation in the fifth metacarpal of his right hand.’ Due to the setback, he won’t be able to continue at the U21 European championship.

Barca had earlier decided to discuss the Wolves target’s future after U21 Euros. However, the newspaper states ‘everything could be accelerated’ after his injury setback.

The Premier League interest is led by Vítor Pereira’s side, and they have expressed a desire to secure Martín’s services. Wolves haven’t yet made a formal offer to the La Liga side.

Sport explain the English club can complete the operation if they were to convince Martín and offer €20m to Barcelona.
