Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to dodge a mandatory purchase clause in Carlos Forbs loan deal from Ajax.

That’s according to Voetbalzone, who report that that Forbs is likely to return to Ajax in the summer after a frustrating year on loan at Wolves.

They explain that Forbs has hardly played for Wolves since joining on loan in the summer and as a result, can no longer hit the requirements that would activate a mandatory purchase clause in the loan deal.

Forbs had to start in ten Premier League games for Wolves to be obliged to take him this summer for €13.5m. They also paid his salary of €1.5m and paid Ajax a loan fee of €2.5m.

However, there are now only eight Premier League games remaining this season for Wolves and Forbs has only started one game to date. Thus, even if he started each of the remaining Premier League games, he still wouldn’t hit the tally of 10.

It’s very unlikely he’ll even be handed further appearances, with Vitor Pereira leaving him sat on the bench on Tuesday evening for the 1-0 win over West Ham United.

Instead, the 21-year-old will be returning to Ajax in the summer, where he’ll have to try and fight his way back into Francesco Farioli’s plans.
