Not exactly getting off to the best of starts with a 2-1 loss to Leeds United on the opening day of the season, Wolverhampton Wanderers are trying to bolster their squad.
They still need a new striker, but they also failed to sign Joao Palhinha, losing out to Fulham, meaning they still want a midfielder.
Instead of heading back to Portugal, it appears Wolves have turned their attention to France, targeting recently relegated side Metz by making a bid for their star Boubacar Traoré.
The 20-year-old, according to Le Républicain Lorrain, ‘is the subject of an offer from Wolverhampton’, who have been ‘actively following’ him.
Wolves already tried their luck in January, putting €13m on the table for Traoré, but Metz, then in a relegation battle, rejected it, wanting €20m at least.
However, their failure in avoiding the drop has changed matters considerably, and ‘two options are on offer for Metz these days’.
Wolves are prepared to either offer €6-8m now or to take the player on loan with a compulsory option to buy at €10m.
Metz, ‘who need money’, are ‘giving themselves time to reflect’, knowing that Bruno Lake’s side aren’t the only interested club, with Lille making contact following the sale of Amadou Onana and Milan following the player for quite some time.
That’s competition Wolves wouldn’t have wanted, and they will be hoping the Ligue 2 side make their mind up sooner rather than later.
