Wolverhampton Wanderers continue to be named as a suitor for Sporting star Matheus Nunes in the Portuguese press.

Last weekend, Record stated Bruno Lage’s side have concrete interest in the midfielder.

It was also explained the 23-year-old is aware Wolves will be ready to advance to sign him if he decides to leave the Primeira Liga side this summer.

O Jogo on Saturday explain several clubs have sounded out for the player and even put pressure on him, but the door to leave has been closed.

That’s largely because of Sporting manager Rúben Amorim, who insisted to the president, Frederico Varandas, that he would be against the Portugal international’s sale in this window. The situation would only change if a suitor pays Nunes’ €60m release clause.

Amorim wants the midfielder to stay in Lisbon for at least one more season. He believes Nunes has the qualities to join a big club and ‘Wolves are far from that’. The coach has stressed the same to him during several conversations the pair have had in recent times.

Wolves have made a proposal and although it didn’t meet the Lions’ demands, O Jogo explain it was still attractive for Sporting.

Amorim put pressure on Nunes and advised him to stay for one more season. It seems like the manager will be successful in his efforts.
