Espanyol forward Wu Lei is in talks with Wolverhampton Wanderers over a move this summer.
That’s according to Marca, who say Wolves are ‘taking the initiative’ to sign the Chinese forward ahead of the competition.
The newspaper reports that Lei has been paying attention to interest in his services from the Premier League for several months, with his contract at Espanyol set to expire in December.
He had intended to stay with the Spanish club, regardless of whether they stay in La Liga or drop down a division but now Wolves are pushing ahead with plans to secure his signature.
Negotiations between the player and the club are now ‘underway’ ahead of a move.
However, it isn’t made clear whether he will move this summer and Wolves will pay a fee to Espanyol or if he’ll arrive as a free agent when his contract expires.
There is also no mention of the kind of deal that Nuno Espirito Santo’s side are offering at this point, just that they are making their move and talks are underway.
Interestingly, Wu Lei is a player who will be known to them, having started for Espanyol in the first leg of their meeting with Espanyol in the Europa League and come on as a substitute in the return leg.
The Chinese international, who is considered their best player, has been in decent form for the La Liga side this season, with seven goals and one assist in 38 games this season.
