Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Hugo Bueno has admitted he is loving life on loan at Feyenoord, as he’s no longer playing as the underdog.
Feyenoord Pings cover comments from Bueno today, made to Voetbal International, in which he highlights the major difference between life at Wolves and his current club.
Bueno is spending the season on loan at Feyenoord after it was made clear in the summer that he was not a part of Gary O’Neil’s plans for this season.
He’s been a regular for Wolves since making his debut in October 2022 but had found himself down the pecking order since O’Neil’s arrival.
Thus he’s spending the season with Feyenoord, where he has slowly but surely been establishing himself as first choice after an injury at the beginning of the season slowed things down.
The 22-year-old already has ten appearances to his name, including three in the Champions League and is well on course to beat the 836 minutes he managed across 26 games for Wolves last season given he’s already racked up 733 in this campaign.
Life in the Eredivisie has certainly been different as he’s tasted defeat just one, a 2-0 loss to Ajax at the end of October and drawn once in the games he’s featured in.
That’s a major change from life at Wolves, according to Bueno, who admits playing in the Premier League is no easy task.
“In the Premier League you play against strong teams like City and Arsenal. Here you are the big club that has to dominate matches. That was different at Wolves,” he said.
“He is certainly one of the best players, and I have played against him many times,” he added in a discussion about Bukayo Saka.
“Also Martin Ødegaard, Kevin de Bruyne, Erling Haaland… There are so many that it is difficult to choose. The biggest difference is that they can create a chance at any time. You can’t relax for a second.”
