Wolverhampton Wanderers have ‘put out feelers’ for FSV Mainz 05 youngster Marlon Roos-Trujillo.

That’s what SportBild are reporting and they state the 17-year-old’s contract at Mainz will expire at the end of this season.

It’s claimed Wolves have been interested in signing the attacking midfielder ‘for a long time’, but a potential move has been made difficult due to Brexit.

From the start of next month, Premier League clubs will not be able to sign overseas players until they are 18. Roos-Trujillo will only turn 18-years-of-age in August 2021 and after that, he will have to obtain a work permit to play in England.

This makes it ‘complicated’ for the Premier League side to take him before next summer. Despite the complications, Wolves retain an interest in the teenager.

According to the report, the ‘possible solution’ for Wolves is to formally sign the Germany U18 international, even though he won’t be eligible to obtain a work permit to play in England.

Once his transfer is completed, the young midfielder will be immediately loaned out. Swiss side Grasshopper Club Zürich are in discussion, most likely with Wolves, to take Roos-Trujillo on a temporary deal.

SportBild states Mainz want to hold talks with the young midfielder over extending his contract.

The ‘case is already complicated’, as Wolves cannot have Roos-Trujillo at the club before he turns 18, while the German side want to discuss a new deal with him.
