Wolverhampton Wanderers could be handed a second shot at VfB Stuttgart defender Konstantinos Mavropanos in the summer after they ‘bared their teeth’ in January.
That’s according to Kicker, who say the Greek defender ‘makes no secret’ of the fact he wants to move to a bigger club sooner rather than later.
The newspaper says that he would like to play for titles or ‘at least internationally’ and would ‘preferably’ like to do this in the Premier League.
The problem at the moment is that as long as Stuttgart stay in the Bundesliga his release clause will stay at €30m. That figure, though, falls to €15m if they are relegated according to Fussball Transfers.
That is still a possibility, with the German side 15th in the table but level on point with VfL Bochum behind them level on points and Schalke only a point behind in 17th as well.
Wolves, then, could be handed a second shot at the player they wanted in January should things go badly for Stuttgart in their remaining games. Indeed, he would be available for half of his current release clause.
They will face competition for his signature as Eintracht Frankfurt are also eyeing up a move as well, particularly as they’re set to lose Evan N’Dicka on a free transfer at the end of the season.
The advantage for Wolves is that they’re a Premier League side and Mavropanos is seemingly keen to return to England after his failed spell at Arsenal earlier in his career.
