Wolves fans will likely remember being strongly and repeatedly linked to Edson Alvarez during the summer window.
Claims from Mexico in early July stated Wolves and West Ham had both made formal offers for the player, who was then with Club America.
Ajax had initially gone in with €10m, although interest from elsewhere forced them to raise that figure to €15m.
A few days after the offer claim, Mexican newspaper Record had Alvarez on their front page, along with the Wolves crest.
The Premier League side were presented as being close to winning the race for the 22 year old, and that was creating a lot of excitement in the player’s home country, given the Raul Jimenez connection at Wolves.
In the end, Alvarez ended up joining Ajax, but things haven’t gone according to plan. The youngster isn’t getting the minutes he expected, and despite De Telegraaf reporting there was ‘concrete’ interest from Tottenham, he wasn’t allowed to leave in January.
Things haven’t improved, and now a summer move is being talked up.
De Telegraaf think it’s unlikely Ajax will get back the €15m they paid to Club America for the player, so there could be a relatively low cost transfer on the horizon.
Wolves are unlikely to have completely forgotten about him, and given Alvarez can play a variety of defensive roles it’s certainly one for the club’s recruiters to think about.
