At the start of the month, reports from the Brazilian media claimed Wolverhampton Wanderers were making a bid for Grêmio star Pepê.
While outlet UOL said Wolves submitted an ‘informal offer’ for the Brazilian winger, Gazeta do Povo said Nuno Espírito Santo’s side were willing to spend as much as €15m on his signing.
Things went quiet for a while, and the outcome of this effort is now reported by the Portuguese press.
TVI24 show Mais Transferências claimed today that Porto are interested in the player, but seem to be struggling to find a deal for him.
And the proof that Grêmio aren’t taking the first bid that gets to their table is that they’ve turned down an offer of €15m from Wolves.
Journalist Rui Pedro Braz doesn’t seem to know if the Molineux side will return for the winger, as he’s actually more focused on Porto’s efforts to make the signing happen.
But he makes it clear that Wolves were the highest bidders for Pepe, and failed to get him.
