Starting in Il Messaggero earlier this week, the idea that Wolverhampton Wanderers could be interested in Lazio’s Bastos has now taken a mind of its own.

We brought it to the English media’s attention, and, of course, everything got exaggerated, with a certain outlet unable to differentiate between the euro and pound signs, therefore claiming £15m was the amount Lazio were asking for.

The good news is that isn’t the case, as the figure was €15m, but the problem here is that if the media in England start exaggerating, then the same happens in Italy.

This means that, on Friday, we are faced with an article in Gazzetta dello Sport on the matter claiming that ‘voices from England’ speak of Wolves ‘being ready to spend €20m’ on the Angola international.

While £15m isn’t €20m, this wouldn’t be the first time figures were embellished to make transfer targets more attractive.

The fact that the voices come from England is also a bit weird, as we don’t believe, after it being reported that €15m was a starting point, that Wolves would just jump in with a €20m offer.

Those are just our two cents. Take them or leave them.
