Wolves fans may be waiting for an update on the club’s chase for Diogo Gonçalves, who a week ago, was said to be close to joining Nuno Espírito Santo’s side.
But, there’s still no updates coming from the Portuguese press. Today, Record, the same newspaper who reported the rumour, reports that Gonçalves is on a list from Marca which included the 20 greatest talents at the U20 World Cup.
In the story, Record recalls that the player is ‘wanted’ by Wolves, but there’s absolutely nothing else on the reported interest.
The Portuguese newspaper claims Gonçalves is now expected to join Benfica’s first team squad during the preparations for the season, and they don’t make it clear if the plan is to keep the youngster around next season.
So it sounds like a Wolves move has gone cold, and considering the good treatment the youngster gets in Lisbon, he doesn’t look like a player who will be loaned in the same way as others who joined the Championship side in the past year.
