As Sporting midfielder Matheus Nunes continues to be linked to a move out of the club, it’s Wolverhampton Wanderers who are still mentioned as the strongest club in the race for him.

It turns out the news today doesn’t come from Portugal, but from Germany, where Sky journalist Florian Plettenberg brings an update on the 24-year-old’s situation.

He claims that Wolves are the ‘most interested club at this stage’, with Sporting ‘open’ to selling the player for €35m plus a percentage of a future sale.

Still, the Molineux side aren’t alone in the race, as it’s said Manchester City are ‘still in’ for the signing and Liverpool ‘keep an eye’ on him, although the Reds’ chase is ‘not very hot’.

As previously reported in Lisbon, Wolves’ biggest problem in this chase is to convince Nunes, as despite claims of bids made to Sporting, he isn’t very keen on making the switch.

Earlier today, it was reported that the player turned down a transfer to West Ham United, and the rejection was confirmed by David Moyes.

The Portuguese media insists that the midfielder is only joining a club who are playing the Champions League and fighting for titles, and just like the London side, it sounds like Wolves couldn’t offer him that either.
