Xavi Hernández’s appointment at Barcelona, injuries and the La Liga side’s decision in bringing three new attackers in January have hindered Memphis Depay from having prominence at the Camp Nou in recent months.
Various reports have indicated the forward is on the Catalan club’s transferable list for the next window and there has also been a mention of Tottenham Hotspur’s interest.
Earlier this week, Spanish journalist Gerard Romero reported the north London club are ‘coming for’ the 28-year-old in the summer. It was also explained the Blaugrana have received a ‘formal offer’ from Spurs for the Netherlands international.
Adama Traoré, Ferran Torres and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s arrivals in January has seen the competition increase for the Barca attackers to start matches. However, the former Manchester United man is not bothered with the current situation.
“No, we are at the best club in the world. It would be a little weird if you didn’t have any competition,” Memphis told Ziggo Sport, relayed by Voetbal International.
“Due to the circumstances, we were also short on attackers at the club. You could see that at the beginning of the season. Back then I often played alone in front or with young boys. You play for the best club, so that’s part of the competition.”
“I got injured at a bad moment. That s***s and it took longer than I expected [to recover]. Now I am fit and happy again. You have to get your rhythm back and show that you belong in it. I think I can do that well.”
With the reported offer in from Antonio Conte’s side, the Dutchman’s comments indicate he seems unfazed by the current situation at Barcelona.
