Manchester United youngster Tahith Chong has admitted he’s held talks with those in charge at the club ahead of being a part of Erik ten Hag’s squad next season.
The current Ajax boss is currently the outstanding favourite to replace Ralf Rangnick in the Manchester United dugout when the German steps down from his caretaker role in the summer.
Should the Dutchman arrive as expected, then a major overhaul of the current squad has already been anticipated, with Rangnick publicly admitting that’s what needs to happen.
Several first-team stars are set to be out of contract at the club and will need to be replaced, while it’s also felt that some players are likely to be shipped out as they don’t fit ten Hag’s system.
That’s unlikely to be the case for the youngsters given ten Hag’s talent of developing youth at Ajax, something Manchester United are presumably hoping he can replicate at Old Trafford.
Chong is one of those who could benefit, and he says conversations have already been held about next season.
“Always with the thought: succeed at Manchester United. If that does not work, then it must be at the highest level for me. What this is, will then have to be seen,” he told Voetbal International, relayed by Soccer News.
“They have lifted the option in my contract, they see all my matches, and in the talks I’ve had with Darren Fletcher, technical director, it appears that they are satisfied with my development. They also really want me to rejoin them in the preparation for next season.”
