It’s a worrying time for Tottenham fans, with the Spanish media going all out for Mauirico Pochettino over the past day.
The club’s manager is the subject of stories around Spain on Friday, pushing him forward as Real Madrid’s main candidate to replace Zinedine Zidane.
Madrid’s local sport media say Pochettino has no release clause, whereas the Catalan sport newspapers claim he has. The reason for the difference may be that the Barcelona leaning media want to be able to claim Tottenham’s manager turned Real Madrid down, and are laying the groundwork for that.
Sport Witness has been informed there is no clause, written or verbal, and Pochettino has today confirmed this.
Looking rather dapper at the launch of the Spanish edition of his biography, written by Guillem Balague, Pochettino was of course asked about the situation.
AS go with a headline reading ‘Pochettino: “Real Madrid, what will be, will be …”
The Tottenham boss is further quoted as saying: “I live in the present, there is nothing more important than that. I enjoy what is happening and what will be, will be. Jorge Griffa once told me that I must let football take me, that I do not want to change my destiny.”
Griffa is a former Newell’s Old Boys and Espanyol player, who also coached youth teams at the former of the two.
