Newcastle United’s interest in Napoli star Victor Osimhen has been regularly discussed in the Italian sports media, including their claimed failed efforts to sign him in the winter transfer market.
On April 5th, Corriere dello Sport stated the Naples club’s chairman, Aurelio De Laurentiis, wants as much as €120m to let go of the striker, after ignoring a €100m bid in January.
A day later, Corriere journalist Antonio Giordano stated the Magpies were the ones to make that huge offer in the last window. He also reported that Eddie Howe’s side could return for the 23-year-old in the summer.
The former Lille man has starred for the Naples club, scoring 15 goals and managing four assists from 25 matches in all competitions this season. His form saw journalist Raffaele Auriema warn Napoli last month that Osimhen’s suitors would not think twice to sign him.
Appearing as a guest on Teleclub Italia’s Club Napoli Night, Auriema discussed Newcastle’s chances of signing the Nigeria international after this season.
“Osimhen away at the end of the season? In January he was asked forby Newcastle, but he will never go there because it is not a destination that he likes. Different speech if the English club managed to take on people like Neymar and other champions,” the Italian journalist said, as quoted by Area Napoli.
