As reported by journalist Venê Casagrande, Flamengo have agreed a new contract with starlet Matheus França, with the youngster signing an extension until 2028.
It turns out that this deal apparently has a lot to do with the interest from Newcastle United, who tried to sign the midfielder in January.
It’s said that Flamengo ‘moved’ because of the Magpies’ interest, and now feel like the player is better protected with a new contract.
Newcastle reportedly made a few attempts, and the last of them was for a €20m move, with €5m other in bonuses. Back then, they were told that Matheus is not for sale.
That’s all reported on Venê Casagrande’s Twitter account. But on his Youtube channel, he brings some interesting information regarding the Magpies’ chase.
According to the journalist, Newcastle have already warned that they’ll make new attempts to sign França, and will try again in the summer.
He said: “The English club will keep trying. They already warned of that. They will keep trying. In the next transfer window, in the middle of 2023, Newcastle will try to sign Matheus França again.”
Since Flamengo continue having no intention of selling him, there isn’t even a price tag for the player yet, so that will depend on how good the Magpies’ new offer will be.
