Alexander Isak swapped Real Sociedad for Newcastle United for a club-record fee in the last window and started his Magpies career on a bright note, by scoring at Anfield.
Eddie Howe’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat against Liverpool and the striker also found the back of the net in his side’s 1-1 draw against AFC Bournemouth.
The Sweden international’s start to his life at Newcastle has left his national teammates, Viktor Claesson and Mattias Svanberg, impressed.
Janne Andersson has already seen several of his players miss the ongoing international break due to injuries and Isak was the latest player to be added to that list.
On Thursday, the Svenska Fotbollförbundet [Swedish football association] confirmed the Tyneside club’s frontman was forced to withdraw from the Sweden squad due to an injury picked up while training on Wednesday.
Both Claesson and Svanberg have expressed their disappointment at losing the Newcastle player.
“We are losing a very good player, who has done well at the start of the Premier League. It’s clear we wanted him with us, but it’s also something you’re used to as a footballer. There will be injuries. I have no doubt that we have replacements,” Hallands Nyheter quoted Claesson as saying.
On Isak’s injury blow, Svanberg said: “There is much lost, above all the quality of being able to make a difference on your own. We saw him in his first game against Liverpool, how he single-handedly scored a goal, which admittedly was ruled out for offside.
“Being able to stand for those actions against world [class] players, that’s a pretty good quality. And we are losing it.”
