A year ago exactly, a rumour started doing the rounds that Everton were thinking about signing Ghana international Richmond Boakye, currently contracted to Red Star Belgrade.

The Toffees were apparently on a ‘mission’ to sign the striker, a move that never ended up taking place.

However, Boakye’s dreams of playing in England aren’t over, as Southampton, Watford, Huddersfield and Brighton are all said to be gunning for his signature, and the 25-year-old is expecting to sign for one of them in January.

Speaking to sportsghanaworld, the forward said: “I think it’s the dream of most players to play in England, but I think this season my move to England is going to happen. I’m not going to give details, but it will surely happen in January.

“In two to three months, it will happen. It’s not that I’m hoping for it. It will happen”.

The outlet explain Boakye never revealed who the interested clubs were, but sportsghanaworld ‘understands’ one of the Terriers, the Hornets, the Saints and the Seagulls is likely to acquire his services in the upcoming transfer window.

Back in Serbia for his second stint with Red Star after six months in China with JS Suning, the striker has found the back of the next three times in three games, as well as assisting his teammates twice, taking his tally to 42 goals in 52 appearances for the SuperLiga side.

Looking at each interested team, it’s hard to say who needs him the most (probably Huddersfield), since they are all struggling to get their current goalscorers firing.

Andre Gray tops Watford’s list with three in eight appearances, Brighton are still relying on 35-year-old Glenn Murray (5 in 8, two of which were penalties), while Southampton have Danny Ings to thank with three goals in seven games.

As for Huddersfield, the fact they have scored four goals all season, and three different centre-backs have scored three of those tells you everything you need to know about how David Wagner’s side are faring going forward.

No price is mentioned regarding Boakye, but considering Red Star only paid £2m or so to bring him back from China on a two-year deal, we can’t see this being out of reach for any of those sides.

Now, we wait and see if the Ghana international’s confidence is well-founded.
