As well as being a legendary defender back in his day, Franco Baresi is now Milan’s vice-president.
The 60-year-old oversees pretty much everything the club does, including the ins and out in the upcoming transfer window, which will eventually mean doing something about Chelsea’s Fikayo Tomori.
We’ve had multiple reports claiming the player will most likely stay as Milan are seriously considering triggering the €28m purchase clause in his loan, but that figure still needs to be put together.
There’s been a few doubts as to whether they’d want to go that high, but the latest report suggested qualifying for next season’s Champions League would do the trick, bringing extra money to top up the €15m they’d previously set aside for a new centre-back.
As for Franco Baresi, the man second in charge at the club, he’s made it very clear that attempts will be made to buy the Chelsea man.
He told Gazzetta dello Sport: “He has imposed himself with great determination and talent. He arrived in a league he didn’t know and faced it without fear. They are the qualities of a potential champions. We hope he keeps his promises.
“We will do everything possible to redeem him, even if there are still two months to play and it will not only depend on Milan”.
What Baresi says rings true, as Tomori still needs to accept and agree to leaving Stamford Bridge for good should the €28m be presented to Chelsea.
However, at the rate things are going and the great reputation he’s gaining in Milan these days, it would be surprising if he snubbed the opportunity.
