Arsenal’s Kai Havertz has been backed to turn things around at the club and prove his doubters wrong, although ‘he will continue to be the whipping boy’ until that happens.

That’s according to Germany’s Sport 1, who cover the player today and share their opinion that the criticism of him has been over the top thus far.

Havertz has endured something of a rough start to life at Arsenal since moving in a big-money transfer from Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

His poor run of form continued at the weekend as he spurned his opportunity to make himself the hero in the eventual 2-2 draw with Tottenham, skying a volley over the bar late on in a moment that led to various newspapers mentioning his struggles again post-match.

Sport 1 cover that and say the Arsenal man is now ‘the epitome of doubts’ that are not only affecting him but also their style of play, which is ‘no longer as inspiring as it was last season’.

They believe that without a broad chest, it is becoming ‘increasingly difficult’ for the former Leverkusen star to reach his performance potential.

That’s not being helped by the British press, whose negative comments are ‘piling up’ and ‘increasingly mixed with a dose of ridicule’. Something Sport 1, at least, seem to think is unfair.

They cover the various people piling on the player, from Graeme Souness to Piers Morgan, believing they are taking easy shots at someone who is clearly struggling.

Their belief is he will ‘continue to be the whipping boy’ until he breaks his duck and gets his confidence back.
