When Gabriel Jesus started showing his potential in Brazil, he used to be compared to Gabigol. They were both similar talents from the same generation, although things turned out different for the pair after their transfers to Europe.
Jesus now has three goals and one assist in four appearances for Manchester City, and he only started two of these games. It’s already a better record than Gabigol who has been struggling to get minutes at Inter Milan since his transfer in the summer.
So who are the Brazilian people started comparing Jesus with? Neymar, of course. Even though he’s undoubtedly the country’s greatest talent for many years, the Barcelona star couldn’t have the same impact in his first games in Europeas Jesus has enjoyed at Manchester City.
This discussion isn’t only bar chat, as TV shows are talking about it too. Former Brazil striker Edmundo, who’s a pundit Fox Sports, had his say on the matter after Jesus’ brace against Swansea City:
“They asked me on Friday if Gabriel Jesus has the potential to overcome Neymar. I said yes, because he’s six years younger. And I believe that at age of 25 he will be better than Neymar.”
“Because he scores more goals than Neymar. Regularly he is more of a top scorer than Neymar. The only difference is between Manchester City and Barcelona. Tradition in European football counts a lot.”
Luckily for the Brazil national team, they have both Gabriel Jesus and Neymar at their disposal.
