Championship side Wigan Athletic are back being linked to Benfica right-back Alex Pinto this weekend.

Newspaper Record brings a short story saying the Latics have made ‘a few contacts’ to know more about the player’s situation at the Eagles and the process to sign him.

They claim Wigan are not alone in the race, but since the other competitors are not mentioned, it’s hard to know how difficult it would be to get the player.

All Record says is that after two years at the club, Alex Pinto could continue his career ‘somewhere else’, so it doesn’t look like the Eagles are making many efforts for him to stay.

The story is very similar to the one we covered from O Jogo a week ago.

The northern newspaper had also reported Wigan’s interest in the player, and didn’t have many more details about it.

Pinto has 30 appearances for Benfica B this season, but never managed to play for the first team. He’s currently protected by a €60m release clause and a contract which runs until 2023.
