Jürgen Klopp joined Liverpool in October 2015 after the Reds parted ways with Brendan Rodgers.
The German coach has transformed the Merseyside club and helped them to make it to two successive Champions League finals, winning the competition last season.
Prior to signing for the European champions, the current Anfield manager had an opportunity to join Manchester United. This has been widely reported and discussed by a few former Liverpool players.
Last month, Robbie Fowler told the Mirror that Klopp turned down the Red Devils because they were “focused solely on commercial influences”.
Another former Liverpool star Phil Thompson has now joined the list and further explains why the manager rejected Manchester United.
“I interviewed Klopp for Sky, and I asked if he and Liverpool were created for each other. He looked at me and asked why,” Thompson told Norway’s TV2.
“Then Klopp told me he could have taken over Manchester United, but his wife said it wasn’t right. When Liverpool arrived, his wife said it was right. There is something strange there. It is as if he’s created for Liverpool.”
Liverpool are the only undefeated team in the Premier League this season and they sit top of the table with 34 points after 12 games. Thompson is of the belief the current squad is the best in recent history.
“This is one of the best Liverpool teams in the club’s history. In my time we always lost three to four games [at this stage of the season], but this team leads by nine points and lost only one game last season,” he added.
“This season they have beaten everyone, except for a draw at Old Trafford. They are doing something great.”
