The wife of Chievo Verona defender Fabrizio Cacciatore expects her husband to remain with the Serie A side next season. Cacciatore is currently on loan with Chievo from Sampdoria, and his performances last season brought him to the attention of Leeds United owner Massimo Cellino.

Speaking to TMW, Eleonora Battistelli was asked about Cacciatore’s future, and the prospect the fullback could break into the Italian national side.

Battistelli said her husband still has two years left on his contract, and believes he had a fine season with the Italian club last season. She went on to say because of his performances last season, she expects him to be given a chance for his country.

“If he stays at Chievo? He has two more years left on his contract. I wish to repeat, he had a very good year, and if he gets a call up for the national team he deserves it,” said Battistelli.

Despite these comments from Cacciatore’s wife, the player’s agent recently said they would evaluate the defender’s future once the transfer window opened. He confirmed his client would start pre-season training with Chievo, and then they would look at his future.

During the last window Cacciatore was linked with a move to Leeds United after Cellino travelled to Italy to get a lowdown on the 29-year-old.

This was then followed by one of Leeds United’s scouts attending the game between Chievo and Lazio that same month. Cacciatore was touted as being an ideal replacement for Sam Byram when he left for West Ham United in January.
