Barcelona are keen on signing Liverpool’s Luis Díaz in the summer window.
Two days ago, Mundo Deportivo stated the forward has no plans to extend his contract at Liverpool beyond 2027. It was also stated the La Liga winners have identified the 28-year-old as the priority target to fix their shortcomings.
Saturday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo explains why the Liverpool player is the priority and not Athletic star Nico Williams.
Last summer, the Catalan club showed keen interest in 22-year-old Spain international. The Basque club hosting the Europa League final was a major incentive for him to extend his stay with them.
In addition to this, there was a risk of Barca not being able to register Williams had he joined them. His decision to not take the chance last summer saw Barcelona president Joan Laporta, and sporting director Deco, both cool their interest in him.
This led them to focus more on the Colombia international, and the newspaper states the situation hasn’t changed now. Therefore, Barca ‘will try to burn its ships’ for Díaz.
Mundo add the attacker’s contract situation at Liverpool favours the Spanish champions, who ‘will not stop trying to sign him’ in the upcoming window.
To sum it up, Williams’ decision of last summer can now help Díaz to end up at the Camp Nou.
