Manchester City already being eight points behind Liverpool is certainly concerning for Pep Guardiola and his efforts to retain the Premier League title.

However, perhaps that City are only a point ahead of Arsenal and just two ahead of Leicester City, Chelsea and Crystal Palace makes things look even worse.

Losing 2-0 to Wolves at the Etihad on Sunday is a further blow in a season which isn’t going according to plan for the champions.

Naturally, Marca have taken a look at the situation.

In their Monday edition, the Spanish newspaper have an article titled: ‘What’s wrong, Pep?’

They feel the manager needs to use the current international break to evaluate his problems at Manchester City and try to find a way forward.

Backing up the manager, they state he has a ‘defence in quarantine’, and insist the injury issues are a major factor behind the club’s poor start.

Nicolas Otamendi is described as ‘a shadow of the player’ who was so dominant during his time with Valencia. They place blame on him for Wolves’ first goal and say he also ‘failed spectacularly’ in the defeat to Norwich City.

Of course, Marca, being a Real Madrid leaning publication, aren’t going to absolve Guardiola of blame. They point out he’s been complaining about referee decisions and suggest he should use City’s academy more.

If Manchester City’s troubles continue then it can be certain these kind of reports will increase in Spain, which will likely irritate the manager.
