Showing he can turn up in the big games with a great performances against his former team last weekend, Romelu Lukaku is ready to finish the season strongly ahead of the World Cup.
The Manchester United summer signing has had a rollercoaster of a first season at Old Trafford, starting strongly, only to then hit a dry spell after the first couple of months or so.
Now back among the goals, the 24-year-old, who has already scored 22 this season in all competitions, is looking forward to this summer, where he welcomes the renewed form of his compatriot Michy Batshuayi.
Speaking to VTM in Belgium, relayed by DH, he said: “The more competition there is, the better you play. What’s a player without competition? It’s part of the game, but in my head, there is no competition.
“I’m confident in my abilities. I always think ‘I’m the best and I’m going to play’. Batshuayi is brimming with confidence? Me too”.
Determined to show everyone, especially Roberto Martinez, that he should be the starting striker, injuries permitting, on the field in Russia this summer, this attitude, one he’s demonstrated all year round, will be great news for Manchester United fans and José Mourinho.
With a tough end of the season, including the Champions League to play for and a fight for the second spot in the Premier League to play for, the more motivated Lukaku is, the more goals he’s likely to score.
