Gaziantep FK president Mehmet Buyukeksi has spoken to Ajansspor and confirmed his club are interested in signing Stoke City midfielder Giannelli Imbula, who’s currently on loan with Serie A side Lecce.
Imbula has been linked with a move to the Super Lig side, but yesterday saw claims in Turkey that player had rejected the move because of personal terms.
Speaking about the DR Congo international, Buyukeksi said they’ve made an offer for the 27 year old and are currently waiting for the player’s answer: “We are in talks with other players to strengthen our squad. Imbula is one of the players we’re looking at. His father represents him. We’ve held talks with his father and we’re currently waiting for their decision.”
Imbula is expected to leave Lecce in this transfer window after making just four appearances for the Italian club so far this season.
Gaziantep FK are in the market for a midfielder after making a good start to life in the Super Lig. They want to strengthen their squad before the deadline in order to consolidate their place in the Turkish top flight.
The central midfielder’s contract with Stoke City will expire at the end of June 2021.
