West Ham United’s decision to allow Manuel Lanzini to leave in the summer transfer window has alerted River Plate, according to El Intransigente.
The 28-year-old was a product of the Argentine club’s academy and spent four years with their first team before moving to the Middle East in 2014.
He joined the Hammers initially on a loan deal in 2015 before his stay in London was made permanent a year later.
The attacking midfielder’s performances saw him linked with Liverpool and Tottenham before he suffered a serious injury before the 2018 World Cup. Since then, his career has taken a ‘downward trend’, both with David Moyes’ side and Argentina.
Lanzini, who is one of the most wanted players by River Plate supporters, has started in only three league matches this season. The South American is no longer a key figure for the English club and injuries haven’t helped him.
It’s claimed the West Ham leaders have ‘made the decision’ to ‘free themselves’ from the player in the next market. This news had a ‘strong impact’ on River Plate, and their management are now looking at the possibility of bringing the attacker back to the club.
According to the report, it’s ‘complicated’ for River Plate to sign Lanzini back because he still has over two years left on his contract. Although the fee needed by West Ham is relatively low for European clubs, it’s deemed high for the Argentine side.
El Intransigente don’t specify any figures in their report, but whatever the fee the Premier League side are asking, it’ll be ‘almost impossible’ for River Plate to carry out the operation.
