West Ham United owner David Sullivan and director of football Tim Steidten are ‘seriously considering’ Paulo Fonseca as their number one choice to replace David Moyes.
That’s according to Foot Mercato, who say West Ham ‘adore’ the Portuguese coach thanks to the work he’s been doing at Lille.
There is a growing feeling that Moyes will depart West Ham in the summer after a successful second stint in charge that has seen them win the Europa Conference League and establish themselves in the top half of the table.
The belief is that the Hammers want to go in a different direction once his deal expires this summer and Fonseca could be the man to do that.
FM report that his performances in France with Lille, as well as them doing well in Europe, have caught the eye of the West Ham hierarchy.
Sullivan and Steidten in particular are now ‘seriously considering’ a move for him after targeting Ruben Amorim and Julen Lopetegui as well.
Their ‘focus’ has been turned from those two to the Lille manager and there is now a ‘good chance’ that he will leave the French side by June.
Interestingly that is a date which has already been put forward in relation to West Ham, with a report earlier this week stating that they wanted things wrapped up before June on the manager front.
Whether that means Fonseca is now the number one target remains to be seen but it seems he’s made an impression and is very much on the list of potential Moyes replacements.
