It seems São Paulo defender Luizão isn’t the only Brazilian who West Ham United are currently interested in.
According to information from YouTube channel Atenção Vascaínos, the Hammers are also keen on Vasco da Gama youngster Eguinaldo.
Journalist Fávio Dias reports that West Ham’s Head of Recruitment Rob Newman visited the Brazilian club’s training ground last week and ‘confirmed’ the Hammers’ interest in the winger. His presence at the Cruzmaltino’s headquarters is even proved in a picture where he’s holding their jersey.
It’s said Eguinaldo has been ‘mapped’ and ‘watched’ for a long time, and the good year he’s been having in Serie B would be a reason for the Premier League side to go after him.
Flavio Dias claims to have spoken to Mauricio Nassif, the player’s agent, and he ‘confirmed’ that Newman indeed paid a visit to Rio de Janeiro’s four big clubs (Vasco, Flamengo, Fluminense and Botafogo). The representative, however, didn’t want to talk about any rumours regarding West Ham and Eguinaldo.
It’s pointed out that Eguinaldo has recently signed a new contract which runs until 2027, but depending on the offer, the Brazilian club could enter negotiations. The player is protected by a €30m release clause.
