On January 23rd, local publication Galicia Press reported that West Ham United are close to signing Maxi Gomez from Celta Vigo.
It was explained the Uruguay international was set to become the most expensive sale in the La Liga outfit’s history and his transfer is taking for granted in England.
West Ham’s interest in the 22-year-old gets a mention in Thursday’s edition of Mundo Deportivo as he’s been in fine form for Miguel Cardoso’s side this season, scoring nine goals and registering five assists in the league.
Gomez has a release clause of €50m and Manuel Pellegrini’s side are collecting money, said to be around £40m.
Meanwhile, sources have told Sport Witness the Hammers are not close to signing Gomez and Celta have so far received no bid from the Premier League outfit.
The player has a contract with the Spanish side until 2022 and he is likely to finish this campaign with Celta.
