Just months after sealing a West Ham switch, Hammers’ Turkish international Gokhan Tore is apparently to return Besiktas in the January transfer window, as he’s getting ready to terminate his loan earlier than expected.
That’s according to Turkey’s Aspor and Gercek Gundem.
The 24- year old winger joined Slaven Bilic’s side in the summer with a hope to prove himself in England, but the former Chelsea academy graduate couldn’t meet the expectations and is struggling to adapt to the physicality in English football. Part of the West Ham chant ”We’ve got Tore” has left the Turkish press thinking the club’s fans are not worrying, and even pleased, that their player may be returning to his parent club.
Besiktas president Fikret Orman met with Slaven Bilic in London two weeks ago to discuss the situation regarding Gokhan Tore and the under-pressure West Ham boss is reported as saying to his former boss that ”He’s a great player but he’s struggling here. He’s your player, I am not planning to force him out but if you want him, and if he wants you, then I’m OK with it [a return].”
It’s also understood Besiktas want to terminate his loan contract with no compensation, but West Ham will look to get half of the money they paid to loan Tore (€3M).
Besiktas boss Senol Gunes said last week that they need a new winger in January, because Vincent Aboubakar is heading to AFCON with Cameroon, and there’s been a long term injury to their key player Caner Erkin.
Gunes said: ”Quaresma is doing good but he’s 32 now, he can’t play every single game. We need quantity here as well as the quality.”
Tore joined West Ham in a loan deal which cost the Hammers around €3M, and if West Ham want to sign him permanently they’ll have to pay €9M to Besiktas.
