West Ham United’s links to the Atlético-MG striker Lucas Pratto were taken a bit too seriously in Brazil.

On Wednesday, the Daily Mail published an article saying the Argentine striker had been offered to the Hammers, with a cost of around £14m.

But due to a mis-translation, many Brazilian outlets believed that West Ham offered £14m for the player, which created quite some excitement around the local club.

Website Globo Esporte, which is normally very reliable, also fell into the trap, and made a story about how the offer would be taken at Atlético-MG.

They say the bid is “more than enough” and could finally take the player to Europe, as Pratto has never hidden the desire to play there.

What does it mean for West Ham fans? It means that due to the mis-translation, the media will be checking every single Pratto move in the next few weeks.

And if the Daily Mail’s article is true, the Hammer’s response won’t take long to get out to Brazil. The figures are good, so it’s all up to Slaven Bilic and West Ham now.
