With a €40m clause in his contract expiring on July 15th, clubs have under a month if they want to sign Jean-Michael Seri from OGC Nice without having to negotiate a fee.

Despite alleged interest from Arsenal and Chelsea, there has been very little movement on the transfer market involving the Ivory Coast international, with Napoli seemingly the likeliest to get something done.

However, TuttoMercatoWeb on Wednesday tried to change that with an exclusive, stating that West Ham, who are currently going around Europe making sensible signings (Issa Diop, Lukasz Fabianski…), have made an offer to the player.

That, automatically, placed them as the ‘closest to sign the player’, but Sport Witness have been told that isn’t the case, and Seri has not received an offer from the Hammers.

TuttoMercatoWeb state that down Napoli’s end, the lack of offers for Marek Hamsik is complicating their efforts to try and sign the Nice midfielder, meaning until their captain leaves, there’s little chance of the Serie A side making a move.

For West Ham, that’s good news, as it gives them more time should they decide to come forward, and with the project Manuel Pellegrini is starting to build in London, perhaps the draw of playing under such a successful manager could be of interest to Seri.
