West Ham United are also in the race for Stuttgart striker Sasa Kalajdzic and contacted his agent Sascha Empacher ‘some time ago.’
That’s according to BILD, who say the forward is available for €25m, as his contract is set to expire next summer.
Kalajdzic has been heavily linked with a move away from Germany this summer despite an injury-hit campaign that saw him limited to 15 appearances in the Bundesliga.
Despite that, he still managed six goals and two assists in those games, and that’s left him with a solid reputation around Europe.
Several Premier League sides have been credited with an interest, and it seems West Ham are now to be added to the list.
BILD report they want the Austria striker, who is currently on holiday in Santorini with his partner, but cannot switch off entirely as his future remains unclear.
They state that West Ham ‘contacted’ Kalajdzic’s agent Sascha Empacher about a move ‘some time ago’, but it’s not clear if things have progressed beyond that.
Kalajdzic himself is still not ruling out a move to Bayern Munich after holding talks with them a few weeks ago, and he would be back in the game if Robert Lewandowski moves to Barcelona.
Until that point, he is in something of a ‘stand-off’ situation, something that frustrates Stuttgart as it paralyses their own transfer plans.
West Ham can therefore offer a solution for all parties, although even if they’re willing to pay the €25m needed, they may still need to convince the player.
