West Ham welcome Lyon this week for their Europa League quarter-final, and the Hammers will be confident they have enough to progress to the semi-finals.
David Moyes’ side beat Sevilla in the last round, which was an impressive scalp for the London club, given the Spanish side’s history in the UEFA competition. Sevilla were also doubly determined to make the final, because this year it’s set to be held at their own Ramon Sanchez-Pizjuan Stadium.
With the first leg being at home, West Ham will try to take an advantage to France for the second match, and Wednesday’s L’Equipe has some information on what team they could be facing.
Jerome Boateng was a big free signing for Lyon last summer, as they took the defender from Bayern Munich. Unfortunately, he hasn’t really had the desired impact, and L’Equipe say he ‘can’t finish a match right now’.
Recently, ‘he’s only a passenger’, and that makes it doubtful he’ll start against West Ham on Thursday evening.
He’s only played two matches in two months, and recently questioned the tactics of manager Peter Bosz.
L’Equipe believe Lyon’s starting eleven will be: ‘A. Lopes – Dubois (cap.), Thiago Mendes, Lukeba, Emerson – Aouar, Ndombele – Faivre, Paqueta, Toko Ekambi – Mo. Dembélé.’
