The winter transfer window closed more than a week ago and clubs will now focus on players they need to bring in during the summer.

At the same time, there will be reports explaining failure from a few clubs to sign players in January. West Ham United are one among them, if reports coming out of Italy are to be believed.

According to Calciomercato, David Moyes’ side were interested in Inter Milan’s Roberto Gagliardini.

It’s claimed the Hammers ‘seriously tried’ for the midfielder last month, but were unable to get a deal over the line. That’s because Antonio Conte’s side had no plans to let their player leave midway through the season.

Gagliardini is currently sidelined with an injury and hasn’t featured for the Nerazzurri for more than a month.

The Italian’s contract at the San Siro runs down in 2023 and it remains to be seen if West Ham will come back for him after this campaign.

Gagliardini has made nine starts in the league this season and has two goals and an assist to his name.
