Andy Carroll’s outstanding bicycle-kick was the main talking point after West Ham United’s 3-0 win over Crystal Palace yesterday, but fans of the East London club made it quite clear Dimitri Payet’s possible departure in January hasn’t gone down too well with them.
While West Ham are reluctant to sell Payet, who wants to return to Marseille, L’Equipe yesterday reported West Ham have put a price tag of €40m on the Frenchman.
On Sunday, L’Equipe report the possibility of Marseille signing Payet and then allowing him to stay at West Ham until the end of the season on loan. That would be a curious situation, and could be an idea which doesn’t get past the planning stage.
It is believed the situation has reached an impasse, as West Ham remain reluctant to sell the 29-year-old.
L’Equipe say there is also interest from China, without mentioning the team, whilst they cite English media to report interest from other Premier League clubs.
There have been reports in the English media that West Ham have identified Gylfi Sigurdsson as a possible replacement for Payet, and L’Equipe reiterate those reports saying the Swansea star could cost as much as €35m. The French newspaper believe West Ham would want to sign a replacement before letting Payet go.
