West Ham United have turned their attention to Fenerbahce defender Attila Szalai after struggling to convince Thilo Kehrer into a move.

That’s according to Sky Sports Germany, who cover the Hammers’ interest in both defenders today.

They explain that Kehrer is ‘on the verge’ of leaving PSG as they are keen to sell him in the final year of his deal, as opposed to losing him on a free next year.

West Ham are ‘interested’ in him and Kehrer can imagine moving to the London Stadium but would prefer to stay in France for the time being.

That is being facilitated by PSG who, despite wanting to sell, are demanding €20m for the former Schalke man.

That’s a figure which is ‘too much money’ for West Ham given his contract situation. They had initially offered €10-12m for the defender.

Thus they are looking at other candidates and have now turned their attention to Szalai.

He’s been impressive for Fenerbahce since joining in 2021 and that’s seen him pick up interest from the Premier League. A departure is ‘not categorically ruled out’ at this point.

The belief is that if Kehrer proves to be too expensive for West Ham, Szalai could soon be playing in the Premier League instead.
