West Ham United were reportedly one of the clubs who sent scouts to the big match between Porto and Sporting on Friday night.
With the Dragons’ 2-1 win, they now stand five points clear on top of the Portuguese league table, getting closer to the trophy with only nine fixtures to be played.
It’s O Jogo who reports the Hammers’ presence at the Estádio do Dragão, although they don’t seem to know if there was a special player who the club scouts were watching. That’s quite a surprise, given that William Carvalho was on the pitch for the away side.
The West Ham target had a great match, along with midfielder partners Bruno Fernandes and Bryan Ruiz. Former Sunderland defender Sebastian Coates was also praised a lot for his display.
But that wasn’t enough to hold the league leaders, who had their goalscorers as their best players in the match. Defender Ivan Marcano, who runs out of contract next summer, opened the score, with winger Yacine Brahimi getting the winner in the second half.
Other clubs who had scouts at this match were Arsenal, Leicester City, Liverpool, Manchester United, Manchester City, Atalanta, Empoli, Inter Milan, Juventus, Roma, Guingamp, Monaco, Montpellier, Caen, Espanyol, Real Sociedad, Bayern Munich, Besiktas, Spartak Moscow and Wisla Krakow.
