West Ham United have been repeatedly linked to Yacine Brahimi, and on the face of it, it looks a Very-West-Ham type of transfer to do. Agents will be involved up to the hilt, he’d be a player who could be presented as a potential superstar, and would also be something of a bargain.
We covered West Ham’s interest during the last summer transfer window, and it’s popped up every now and again since then. Porto were keen on a sale last summer, they wanted the money. Publicly the noise was different, but Brahimi was sent to train with the club’s second string and pretty much ostracised.
No club matched the amount Porto wanted and Brahimi was slowly brought back into the fold. Porto realised that it would be silly not to use him, Brahimi’s value would drop. Now, the Algerian is an important player again, with some Porto fans believing he’s one of their very best. Some recent performances have justified that.
Brahimi was Man of the Match as Porto beat Belenenses on Saturday, and West Ham just so happened to have an official watching the match, report O Jogo. With a goal to crown his performance, the Portuguese press are raving about Brahimi again and Slaven Bilic’s attention may have also been gained.
Will it be enough to make West Ham part with a big lump of cash for the 27 year old? It may well be.
